Hoods Inventions Laid the Technological Foundation for Genomics and Proteomics
The award was given in ceremonies September 22 in Seattle. The Prize has been awarded annually since 2000 to honor original work that significantly increases knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the human genome and society.Dr. Hood was honored for creating the technological foundation for the sciences of genomics and proteomics through the invention of five groundbreaking instruments and for explicating the potentialities of genome and proteome research into the future.

Co-founder and President of the Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle, he is one of the worlds leading scientists in systemsbiology, biotechnology, immunology, and genomics.Dr. Hood's speech covered, in brief, the paradigm shifts that have marked his career over the last 40 years, but his emphasis was on the future and the work he is doing currently.
